Belief that a geographical cure or radical change in our surroundings will solve our addiction or alcoholism problems is magical thinking. If only recovery were so easy. Facing life on life's terms is a tall order, but the costs of not doing so are higher. Simply put, I cannot run away from my problems. I need a life-style change, not necessarily a location change.
Of course, I need not fear geographical change if I have good reasons for making such a move, such as new employment. Check your motives as they say. If, however, I am moving in order to escape problems, I may be disappointed to find that, "Wherever I go, there I am."
